Denzel: Travolta is still grieving

Just over two weeks ago, Denzel Washington spoke on the phone with John Travolta – though it was Travolta, grieving over the death of his son, who did most of the talking. "Needless to say, he's struggling," Washington, who stars opposite Travolta in The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3, said at a press conference for the film on Friday. "So more than talking to him, I listened to him, for about two or three hours." Travolta's healing process is "going to take time," Washington says. "What can you say, really? Just be there as a friend, because he's such a sweet, sweet person. Our prayers are with he and his wife." Jett Travolta, 16, died unexpectedly in the Bahamas while the family was vacation in January, reportedly due to a seizure. Washington says his wife Pauletta was closer with Travolta and his wife Kelly Preston prior to their teaming on Pelham in 2008, but, "I know him pretty good now, I think." Their characters interact primarily through electronic communication, but both actors were on set for each other's scenes. While developing their rapport then, Washington says his phone conversations with Travolta were very different. "We would sing songs, [be] telling jokes and singing Broadway tunes and all kinds of stuff."

Rihanna subpoenaed to testify

Rihanna and Chris Brown are scheduled to be in the same courtroom next month during a preliminary hearing in his assault case.
According to the Associated Press, Rihanna's attorney Donald Etra says prosecutors will subpoena his client to testify at the June 22 hearing to determine whether there is enough evidence to bring the case to trial.
It would mark her first appearance in court since felony assault and criminal threats charges were filed against Brown in March. If she is called to testify, the 21-year-old singer would be subject to cross-examination by Brown's attorney, Mark Geragos.
Brown was arrested in February on suspicion of hitting and choking Rihanna in a rented car hours before the couple were scheduled to appear at the Grammy Awards. Etra wouldn't address their relationship now, but said Rihanna, whose real name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty, was following the case closely.
A judge on Thursday rejected a motion by Geragos to receive police and investigative records related to the case and the apparent leak of a photo of a beaten and bruised Rihanna. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Patricia Schnegg told Geragos the motion was premature and he could file it again after the preliminary hearing.
Brown wasn't in court Thursday, but he's required to attend the preliminary hearing. The 20-year-old R&B singer faces possible sentences that range from probation to nearly five years in prison if convicted.

Medical Minute: Your man should see a doctor!

Men just don't like to go visit their doctor! They could be dying on their feet before they'll make an appointment. Health experts around the world ponder at length on why men hate to face up to their health problems – and it looks like issues about masculinity, seeming 'weak', and denial are the big culprits.
Thank goodness, then, for the women in their lives! We look at the top signs that your man should be stepping into the surgery...
1. If he's between 20 and 50
Those 20 to 50 year olds are the worst offenders when it comes to visiting their GP, which makes them more vulnerable than little boys, old men, and of course, women. Most of the time, they might suffer nothing more worrying than a cough or cold, but it is possible that if he's in this age group, and he's not well, it could be more serious, so give your man a firm push in the right direction.
2. If he hasn't had a routine exam – ever!
Men often assume that making a doctor's appointment is a waste of time – particularly if they feel they can cope well enough with low-level symptoms. But the phrase, 'prevention is better than cure' is true for a reason, and regular screening will mean that any problems can be picked up earlier rather than later. If his employer offers private health care, he should take advantage, but if not, he needs to take responsibility, and consult his GP.
3. If he's having chest pains
If he's having chest pains, it could be a sign that he's stressed and that his ticker is not in good working order. Men are particularly susceptible to heart disease, and his risk is greater if it runs in his family, and if he smokes, has high-blood pressure and cholesterol levels, does not exercise enough, and likes his food. If he experiences pain during exercise, don't ignore it – get him to a doctor straight away. Another sign of heart problems is poor dental health.
4. If one of you feels a lump
Testicular cancer is the most common form of cancer in white men between the ages of 20 and 34, though it is much less common in men of African or Asian background. The good news is that if found early it is one of the most highly curable. Often, a lump won't be cancer at all, but may be a harmless cyst, swollen veins, or gristle – but it's always as well to check it.
5. If he's having trouble peeing
While we're on the subject... does he have trouble peeing? Blood in his urine, an inconsistent flow, pain while peeing, or lower back pain, are all signs of prostate cancer. It is the most common cancer in men over 50, and more prevalent in men of an Afro-Caribbean or African-American background. There are no routine screenings for prostate cancer, so pay attention to the signs.
6. If he's feeling low
Men have been conditioned to hide their feelings better than women, which is why women are more likely to present at their GP surgery if they are depressed, whereas men will drink and smoke heavily, be irritable, aggressive, and reckless. And, while women are more likely to attempt suicide (with the exception of young men, who are the highest risk group), men are 3 or 4 times more likely to die. So, if he's struggling, encourage him to talk to his doctor.
7. If he's gets angry
Anger is a perfectly normal emotional response to life's stressors, and because men have more testosterone than women, it's often considered acceptable for them to be angry. But when anger gets out of control, it's dangerous, particularly for his nearest and dearest. In fact, it's also lethal, since research shows links between anger and coronary heart disease. So, if he's suppressing angry feelings, or exploding all the time, a referral to anger management is the best answer.
8. If he's carrying too much weight
A government report says 14 million adults and children in the UK will be obese by 2010. The highest increase is among men, 1 in 3 of whom will be 'dangerously overweight'. This trend will lead to increased incidence of cancer, heart disease and diabetes. In itself, diabetes can lead to erectile dysfunction and kidney disease. Many men are in denial – over half who are overweight consider themselves to be normal. So, if he's looking portly, his GP can refer him to a dietician.
9. If he's buying Viagra online
Low testosterone can be a big problem for some men. Almost two-thirds of men experience symptoms such as low sex drive, erectile dysfunction, mood swings, and fatigue. Don't despair, though, many men can be treated with skin gel, oral medication or injections, which help raise levels into the normal range. Of course, dysfunction might not be a sign of low testosterone, but stress or depression. Whatever, don't rush to buy pills, consult his GP instead.
10. If you can't conceive
Often, if a couple have problems conceiving, it's seen as the woman's problem, but in fact, about 40% of infertility cases are caused by problems with her partner's sperm. If you are struggling, consult your doctor about a sperm test. It might be a little embarrassing for him, but it could spare him more invasive tests. Some causes can be resolved with medication or surgery, but if that does not help, you may have to consider IVF treatment.

Britain's oldest mum gives birth

Businesswoman Elizabeth Adeney has become Britain's oldest mum after giving birth to a son.
She secretly checked in to hospital this week and her baby was born on Tuesday.
Divorced Elizabeth - who turns 67 in July - and her son are being cared for at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge.
Both are believed to be healthy, but are being monitored by specialist doctors.
She is understood to have chosen to give birth at the hospital because a private clinic might have been unable to deal with serious complications.
Weighing 5lb 3oz, her baby was delivered by Caesarean section.
She was due to give birth next month but doctors brought the procedure forward.
Yesterday there was no one at Mrs Adeney's £600,000 home in Newmarket, Suffolk. Her blue Nissan Primera was parked in her drive.
It is understood she will remain in hospital for a number of days.

50 Cent goes bald !!!!!!!!!!!!

Bald..........but only for his new movie!

Fifty Cent may be hinting that he’s done with rap with all these new movies he’s in lately. The G-Unit general recently shaved his head bald to be in the police themed movie Caught in the Crossfire.
An appropriate title as Fif himself will be “caught in the crossfire” of jokes, innuendo and labels. The Queens bully will be starring as a police informant alongside veteran actors Adam Rodriguez (”CSI: Miami”) and Chris Klein (American Pie).

Chris Brown (bodyguard) allegations

Trouble seems to follow this guy around lol

Chris Brown is facing more legal trouble – this time from a man who claims he was beaten up by the singer's bodyguard. Robert Rosen is suing Brown, 20, for personal injury, alleging he was roughed up after taking a snapshot of Brown at a Los Angeles fitness club on March 13, according to the lawsuit filed in L.A. Superior Court. Rosen claims he was chased by the bodyguard, who yelled at him after taking the picture while Brown was playing basketball, and attempted to run away, but an employee of L.A. Fitness Club allegedly "tried to block [Rosen's] exit and grabbed his clothing and body." Rosen broke free but then fell down a flight of stairs, the lawsuit says. The bodyguard then allegedly "picked [Rosen] up by his shorts, and physically assaulted him," according to the lawsuit. Rosen adds he was "severely injured and disabled, both internally and externally," claims he was falsely imprisoned, and is seeking damages covering his medical bills and emotional distress. Rosen, who's also suing the fitness club for negligence and other claims, argues its employees did not adequately protect him. Brown's lawyer, Mark Geragos, says, "This is a specious and frivolous lawsuit by one of the paparazzi seeking publicity and a payday. He’s done this before and lost. We will vigorously defend against this." An L.A. Fitness Club manager at the gym at issue had no comment. The lawsuit makes no mention of whether police were called. A Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson had no knowledge of the incident.

Iron Man actor Terrence Howard engaged

*On location in Prague shooting the WWII film Red Tails, Terrence Howard took time out to ask for his girlfriend's hand in marriage.
According to WENN, the actor proposed to Columbian actress Zulay Henao after she jetted over to the Czech Republic for a visit.
Although he has never confirmed his relationship with Henao, the pair has been spotted together at red carpet events and they were snapped frolicking in the sea together during a December 2007 vacation.
Howard, 40, started dating Henao after splitting with ex-wife Lori McCommas for the second time in 2005. Howard and McCommas ended their 14-year marriage in 2003, but he wooed her back and they remarried, only to split for good soon after.
Last year, the actor revealed how he had bought McCommas her childhood home and stalked her in a bid to win her back. But, after their second split, he moved on and found love with Henao, who helped him recover from the death of his beloved mother Anita to cancer last September.
The couple can be seen together in 2009 movie "Fighting."

Jesus Luz sets the record straight !

Just a friend....why is he saying this now after all this time?

"She is a person who I admire a lot, a friend who is in my life," the superstar's frequent companion, Jesus Luz, tells the Brazilian TV show Fantastico. "More than that, I can't say. She is my friend, just a friend." As for those photos of them buying jewelry featuring Kabbalah symbols, he says, "I received these pieces of jewelry because they are inspired by Kabbalah. If I want to present them to somebody, it could be my mother or a friend of mine. I don't have any marriage plans or any wedding present." The friendship between Luz, 22, and Madonna, 50, began early this year after they were introduced on a photo shoot by photographer Steven Klein. "I found her wonderful, a person full of positive energy, a nice person, you don't see faults," he tells Fantastico. The Brazilian model offered a few details from his own biography, saying, "I am a quiet guy. I grew up in Rio, always liked nature, the beach, to treat my body well, to work out, to be healthy. I went to evangelical church, Catholic, yoga, various ways to try and meet God within me." And is he a ladies' man? "I always liked to date seriously," he says. "I never was just casual." One thing his pal Madonna has taught him is to ignore media rumors, or taunts he's just another Boy Toy. "In truth," he says, "I never pay attention to what others say about me, because if I let negativity to enter into my life, I can't follow my route, my path."

Is Buffie coming back?

The Buffy character saw its biggest success on TV, as played by Sarah Michelle Gellar (above, on the set of The Wonderful Maladys in NYC) for six years before ending in 2003…but of course was originally introduced in the 1992 movie of the same name, and was played in the flick by Kristy Swanson.
But the series could be coming full circle, going back to the big screen with a new actress in the titular role. Director Fran Rubel Kuzui directed the original film and exec-produced both the series and its spinoff Angel; she owns the rights to the Buffy brand, and wants to reboot the franchise for film, replacing Gellar and the rest of the original cast with new actors to take on vampires and demons for a new generation.
Kuzui told The Hollywood Reporter, “Everything has its moment. Every movie takes on a life at some point, and this seems like the moment to do this.”
Bring it on!

Does Michael Jackson have skin cancer?

I've been hearing these rumours for a while now, which were denied by MJ's people but could it be true?

Strained singer MICHAEL JACKSON leaves a medical centre — with a bag printed with the stark words: “Skin cancer.”
Thriller singer Jacko, 50, visited a top dermatologist in Beverly Hills, California, every day last week as he battles the disease.
It is not known what was in the bag, carried by a minder.
It read: “Diseases of the skin, skin cancer and skin cancer chemosurgery.”
The star has had a shave biopsy op to remove dangerous growths and to see if he needs more treatment.
He has also seen experts to minimise scarring.
A close source said: “He’s putting on a brave face but is absolutely terrified.”
Jacko is due to play 50 gigs at London’s O2 this summer, but the opening night has already been postponed to July 13.

Brooke Shields : Skin Cancer Scare

She's got one of the most recognizable – and radiant – faces in the world. But years of sun worship caught up with Brooke Shields when she got some sobering news from her doctor recently. "I had a spot on my face. The doctor scraped it, and it turned out to be precancerous," Shields, 43, tells PEOPLE. "I was scared." The Lipstick Jungle actress had the spot removed and says she's doing "fine." But the cancer scare served as a wake-up call for a woman who "used to think it was the best thing in the world to be baking in the sun" and who, as a teen, would indulge in hot-weather rituals like "baby oil and tinfoil and lemon in your hair." "All my girlfriends and I would go up on the roof in New York; we didn't have to be at the beach," says Shields, who stopped actively tanning a decade ago. "You think that because you're not in the sun anymore, it's all in the past. And then something like that crops up and you're made aware of how dangerous it really can be." Shields, who has put on a brave face as her mother Teri struggles with dementia, was all smiles at an L.A. event this week to launch Coppertone Nutrashield, which claims to protect from sun damage while promoting skin repair. She says she decided to become the face of the brand with two people in mind: Rowan, 6, and Grier, 3, her daughters with husband Chris Henchy. "My kids are translucent," she says laughing. "They have red hair. They reflect! I thought, 'My God, I've got to get more vigilant about it.'" Shields – lauded by friends for her devotion to both her mother and daughters – admits that slathering the girls with sunscreen isn't an easy task. "They're totally not fine with it. They fight me," she says. "They do the thing where while you're putting it on, they're backing up. I'll lock my legs around them ... They're really fair, and they've already had sunburn. It has to be every day."

Gabrielle Union furious about letter of lies

Gabrielle Union (Actress)

Actress Gabrielle Union is unleashing hell ... and her lawyers ... on a gossip website that printed a scandalous, anonymous letter about her -- a letter Union claims is filled with terrible lies. We're told Gabrielle's lawyers have fired off an ultimatum to the site, demanding they remove the letter, print a retraction and send an apology letter to Gabrielle... or else. The site claims they received "the letter" from a "nameless pro-athlete's wife" -- and decided to print it because "it seemed too real." But Gabrielle claims the allegations in the letter -- mostly involving sexual exploits -- are 100% BS ... and the site should have been more responsible with their judgment before deciding to print.

Feuding MLK kids a threat to biopic

*DreamWorks' recently-announced plan to film a Martin Luther King Jr. biopic may be stalled if the civil rights icon's children can't work out their differences.
Bernice King and Martin Luther King III are threatening legal action against their brother Dexter, the overseer of their father's estate, for signing off on the DreamWorks deal without their involvement in the negotiations.
The studio said Wednesday it still wants to make a movie about Martin Luther King Jr. "provided that there is unity" among his kids.
"The purpose of making a movie about the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is to tell a great story which could bridge distances and bring people together," read the statement provided to The Associated Press by DreamWorks spokesman Chip Sullivan. "We remain committed to pursuing a film chronicling Martin Luther King's life provided that there is unity in the family so we can make a film about unity in our nation. We believe this is what Dr. King would have wanted." The studio touted the project as the first big-screen portrayal of the 1964 Nobel Peace Prize winner that would be authorized by the estate and use King's intellectual property, including copyrighted speeches and other works, as the basis for the film. Steven Spielberg was listed as a co-producer.
"I sincerely believe that the film project we have been working on with DreamWorks ... offers an unprecedented opportunity for educating the largest possible audience about our father's legacy as the leader of America's greatest nonviolent movement," Dexter King said in a statement.
He said the DreamWorks biopic could focus on the life and work of his father just as the film "Gandhi" educated people on the teachings of India's political and spiritual leader of non-violent independence from the British.
"I sincerely hope my brother and sister will join us in supporting this urgently needed project," he said.
He said although his communication with family members has "been somewhat stymied by the current litigation," he continues to reach out to them.
Bernice King and King III have accused their brother of tarnishing their parents' legacy with his business decisions, and say he has been operating The King Estate for years without their input. In March, Dexter King brokered a deal with EMI Music Publishing for his father's words and image. Last month, his siblings took issue with an $800,000 licensing deal their brother struck with the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Foundation, which is building a monument to King on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.
The siblings still haven't settled three lawsuits involving their parents' estates, including one attempting to force Dexter King to open the books of The King Estate. Another would determine who should control Coretta Scott King's personal items — some of which were at the center of a $1.4 million book deal about their mother's life that fell apart last year.

Jay Leno: "I don't own any suits of my own"

Jay Leno might have to find a new desk and chair when he leaves the Tonight Show next Friday for his upcoming weeknight comedy hour in the fall, but one worry he won't have is what to wear. "That's been the best part of my job – I haven't been in a store in 17 years," Leno, 59, tells PEOPLE. "I don't own any suits of my own. Before the show, my clothes are laid out for me – the suit, shirt, tie, even the shoes. I put them on and walk out on stage." And when the Jay Leno Show premieres on NBC later this year, the comedian's performing wardrobe goes with him. But when he's not in front of an audience, Leno makes a different kind of fashion statement – wearing the same uniform he's worn for at least two decades: blue jeans, blue work shirt, black lace-up work boots. Asked about any plans to change-up his style for the new gig, the famously low-maintenance Leno shrugs. "Nah. I'm not a big fan of change. What works, we keep." So how many of those jeans, shirts, and boots does he have hanging at home in the closet? "I'll say, 'Get me 50 of these shirts. Twenty-five of these pants.'" Fifty of the exact same shirts? "Oh, no, not 50," says Leno, "I've probably got 500 of these shirts." And the shoes? "Payless!" says Leno, lifting one booted foot. "Fourteen bucks. I buy 'em by the case."

Angelina Jolie watches child soldiers trial

THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AP) - Angelina Jolie sat in a courtside booth yesterday at the International Criminal Court and watched the trial of a Congolese warlord charged with using child soldiers.
In a statement released by the court, Jolie, a mother of six, said the case against Thomas Lubanga is a "landmark trial for children" and paid tribute to the former child soldiers who travel to the court's sea
in The Hague to testify.
"After watching the proceedings from the viewing booth, I stood up and found Thomas Lubanga Dyilo looking at me," Jolie said. "I imagined how difficult it must be for all the brave young children who have come to testify against him."
Tuesday's visit was Jolie's second to the world's first permanent war crimes tribunal in less than two years. The goodwill ambassador for the UN refugee agency UNHCR said children deserve special protection during wars.
"Using children in conflict is a heinous crime and destroys the very fabric of a society," she said.Jolie also met with the court's chief prosecutor, Luis Moreno-Ocampo, during her private visit to the court.

Katie Price says she'll be suing !

Katie Price aka Jordon

Katie Price is threatening to sue "lots of newspapers and mags" over the way her split from Peter Andre has been reported.

The former glamour model told fans on her Twitter page: "Please don't believe everything you read in the press.
"There's lots of newspapers and mags I'll be suing when I get back."
Price went on to thank those who have shown their support during "such an awful time".
The 30-year-old model turned businesswoman is currently on holiday in the Maldives with two of her children following the spilt from her husband of three-and-a-half years.
In an interview with OK! magazine, which took place before she flew to the luxury resort, Price described Andre as "the love of my life" but vowed she would not "shed another tear" over the break-up.
She said: "I don't want us to split up. I love my husband, but I can't sit around crying.
"This is a new story and a new chapter in my life.
"I am so sad and upset by his decision to separate and divorce me as I married him for life."

Katie & Peter happier times

However, Price said Andre would have to make the first move if he wanted them to get back together, because it was his decision to end the relationship.
In the interview, Price also denied claims that her wild nights out partying led to the couple's separation.
She said: "Pete can't blame this on me drinking. I hardly ever go out.
"Over the five years of our relationship I have probably been out 20 times, which is unusual for a woman of 30.
"I'm not a party girl and I don't drink at home so when I go out I can get drunk quickly."
The couple found romance on the reality TV show I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! and were married at a lavish, fairytale wedding in 2005.
Just last September the couple renewed their vows in South Africa.
But, apparent strains on their relationship have frequently hit the headlines, with their blazing rows often caught on camera for their fly-on-the-wall shows.

Michael Jackson postpones tour

Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson fans won't be thrilled - or necessarily surprised - by this news.
The first four dates of the singer's much-hyped 50-show comeback tour have been postponed, promoters announced Wednesday.
The July 9 show at London's O2 arena will now take place July 13 - while shows on July 10, 12, and 14 have been rescheduled for March 2010, promoters said.
The delays immediately stoked speculation that Jackson's health is poor, but promoters said the issue was a production snag.
"There's nothing nefarious," said promoter Randy Phillips, the president of AEG Live. "There's nothing going on with his health."
The postponement came days after a London newspaper reported that Jackson has skin cancer - which his camp steadfastly denied.
Kenny Ortega, Jackson's creative collaborator, said the extra week is needed to deliver a "flawless" multimedia stage production.
"We apologize to all disappointed Michael Jackson fans and remain extremely dedicated and focused on creating an exceptional live music experience," he said.
Some 750,000 tickets to the "This Is It" tour sold out within hours in March, AEG said.
Die-hard fans made plans to travel from overseas, and promoters said Wednesday that anyone who can't attend the rescheduled shows will be entitled to a full refund.Read more: "Michael Jackson postpones comeback tour, fueling rumors of poor health" -

Kidney transplant successful for Natalie Cole

Natalie Cole

Ailing Natalie Cole now has a new kidney.
The 59-year-old singer underwent successful kidney transplant surgery "and is resting comfortably," publicist Maureen O'Connor said Wednesday. Cole will postpone her summer tour, which was set to begin June 5 and run through November, as she recovers.
Cole had been receiving dialysis three times a week since September. She still continued to perform, even overseas, in support of her latest album, the Grammy-winning "Still Unforgettable,"
The kidney dialysis is unrelated to Cole's struggle with hepatitis C, a liver disease spread through contact with infected blood. She announced her hepatitis diagnosis last year and said that the disease was likely caused by her drug use years ago.
Cole received painful chemotherapy to treat the hepatitis and "within four months, I had kidney failure," she told Larry King on his CNN show last month. Without a donor, she would need dialysis for the rest of her life, she said.
After her appearance on King, she received countless letters from people offering to give her a kidney. But a regional organ-procurement agency, One Legacy, found a kidney for her.
Cole has sold millions of records and won nine Grammys since she made her recording debut in 1975. The daughter of jazz legend Nat King Cole had her greatest success with the 1991 CD "Unforgettable ... With Love," which paid tribute to her late father with reworked versions of some of his best-known songs.
She won her ninth Grammy in February for "Still Unforgettable," on which she also sings jazz standards. She recently performed on "American Idol" and was gearing up for her tour.
"I'm committed to working. I'm a fighter, not a chump," she said in an interview with People last year. "The timing is intense. The album is special to me, and here I am sick. But you know the saying: These are the best of times and the worst of times. So we'll barrel through."

The Cosby Show Celebrates 25 Years!

The Huxtables (The Cosby) Show was first aired 25 years ago and to mrk this anniversary the whole cast appeared on the Today Show. Congrats to them!
The show focused on the Huxtable family, an upper-middle class African-American family living in a brownstone in Brooklyn Heights, New York, at 10 Stigwood Avenue.[3] The patriarch was Heathcliff "Cliff" Huxtable, an obstetrician. The matriarch was his wife, attorney Clair (Hanks) Huxtable. Despite its comedic tone, the show sometimes involved serious subjects, such as son Theo's experiences dealing with dyslexia, inspired by Cosby's child Ennis, who was also dyslexic.
Cosby had an unusually high level of creative control over the show. He wanted the program to be educational, reflecting his own background in education. He also insisted that the program be taped in
New York City rather than Los Angeles, where most television programs were taped.
The earliest episodes of the series were videotaped at NBC's Studio One facility in Brooklyn. The network later sold that building, and production moved to the
Kaufman Astoria Studios in Queens.
Although the cast and characters were predominantly African-American, the program was unusual in that issues of race were rarely mentioned when compared to other situation comedies of the time, such as
The Jeffersons. However, The Cosby Show had African-American themes, such as civil rights marches, and it frequently promoted African-American and African culture represented by artists and musicians such as Jacob Lawrence, Miles Davis, James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Lena Horne, Duke Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie and Miriam Makeba.

Fossil is human evolution !

The skeleton of a 47 million-year-old primate that could indicate what our ancestors looked like has been unveiled by scientists.

They have hailed the creature - with four long legs, a long tail and the size of a small cat - as the missing link which could help illuminate the early evolution of monkeys, apes and humans.
Astonishingly, it was found by an amateur collector 26 years ago in the Messil Pit world heritage site, a disused quarry southeast of Frankfurt where many fossils have been found.
It was kept in a private collection until it was offered for sale in 2006 to Dr Jorn Hurum, professor of vertebrate technology at the University of Oslo Natural History Museum.
The fossil was nicknamed Ida after the daughter of Dr Jens Franzen, a researcher from the Senckenberg Research Institute in Frankfurt who is an authority on the Messil Pit area.
He said: "We are not dealing with our grand, grand, grand, grand, grandmother, but perhaps with our grand, grand, grand, aunt."
Ida is linked to humans by the talus bone in her ankle which is the same shape. Scientists also said her opposable big toes and nails, not claws, confirmed she was a primate.
Measuring 2ft from the tip of her nose to the end of her tail, she died before her first birthday, Dr Hurum said, adding: "It's really hard to pinpoint exactly who gave rise to humans at that point but this is as good as it gets really."
Ida is nearly entirely intact, apart from one lower limb. Remnants of her fur are still evident and her last meal of fruit and leaves were still in the stomach cavity when discovered.
The skeleton has been put on display at New York's Museum of Natural History.

Why Tyra Banks Fired Paulina Porizkova

Paulina Porizkova

First General Motors, then Chrysler, now Paulina Porizkova. "The current state of the economy has forced shows to make major budget cuts industry wide," says America's Top Model executive producer Ken Mok, in a joint statement with Tyra Banks released Monday. "America's Next Top Model is not immune to these financially challenging times. We've had to make significant cuts in every area of the production and, unfortunately, Paulina was a casualty of these cuts."

Tyra Banks

As Porizkova herself announced May 12, she was let go from her job as a judge on the show after one year. "The reason I was told I was fired was because, it seemed that America's Next Top Model has gotten too fat and they needed to cut some fat and the fat was me," she said in a TV interview. "So I figured it was either that or my gigantic huge ego. Which I wasn't aware of until I was told by the producers that I have an ego problem." In their statement, Mok and Banks said, "Tyra, who pursued Paulina to join the show as a judge multiple times, was incredibly saddened by the decision the show was forced to make. We really enjoyed working with Paulina, and we wish her all the best in her future endeavors."

Medical Minute - Green Tea

"Better to be deprived of food for three days, than tea for one." (Ancient Chinese Proverb)

The Chinese have known about the medicinal benefits of green tea since ancient times, using it to treat everything from headaches to depression. In her book Green Tea: The Natural Secret for a Healthier Life, Nadine Taylor states that green tea has been used as a medicine in China for at least 4,000 years.
Today, scientific research in both Asia and the west is providing hard evidence for the health benefits long associated with drinking green tea. For example, in 1994 the Journal of the National Cancer Institute published the results of an epidemiological study indicating that drinking green tea reduced the risk of esophageal cancer in Chinese men and women by nearly sixty percent. University of Purdue researchers recently concluded that a compound in green tea inhibits the growth of cancer cells. There is also research indicating that drinking green tea lowers total cholesterol levels, as well as improving the ratio of good (HDL) cholesterol to bad (LDL) cholesterol.

Here are just a few medical conditions in which drinking green tea is reputed to be helpful:

cancer
rheumatoid arthritis
high cholesterol levels
cariovascular disease
infection
impaired immune function

The secret of green tea lies in the fact it is rich in catechin polyphenols, particularly epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). EGCG is a powerful anti-oxidant: besides inhibiting the growth of cancer cells, it kills cancer cells without harming healthy tissue. It has also been effective in lowering LDL cholesterol levels, and inhibiting the abnormal formation of blood clots. The latter takes on added importance when you consider that thrombosis (the formation of abnormal blood clots) is the leading cause of heart attacks and stroke.
Links are being made between the effects of drinking green tea and the "French Paradox." For years, researchers were puzzled by the fact that, despite consuming a diet rich in fat, the French have a lower incidence of heart disease than Americans. The answer was found to lie in red wine, which contains resveratrol, a polyphenol that limits the negative effects of smoking and a fatty diet. In a 1997 study, researchers from the University of Kansas determined that EGCG is twice as powerful as resveratrol, which may explain why the rate of heart disease among Japanese men is quite low, even though approximately seventy-five percent are smokers.
Why don't other Chinese teas have similar health-giving properties? Green, oolong, and black teas all come from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant. What sets green tea apart is the way it is processed. Green tea leaves are steamed, which prevents the EGCG compound from being oxidized. By contrast, black and oolong tea leaves are made from fermented leaves, which results in the EGCG being converted into other compounds that are not nearly as effective in preventing and fighting various diseases.
New evidence is emerging that green tea can even help dieters. In November, 1999, the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition published the results of a study at the University of Geneva in Switzerland. Researchers found that men who were given a combination of caffeine and green tea extract burned more calories than those given only caffeine or a placebo.
Green tea can even help prevent tooth decay! Just as its bacteria-destroying abilities can help prevent food poisoning, it can also kill the bacteria that causes dental plaque. Meanwhile, skin preparations containing green tea - from deodorants to creams - are starting to appear on the market.

Harmful Effects?

To date, the only negative side effect reported from drinking green tea is insomnia due to the fact that it contains caffeine. However, green tea contains less caffeine than coffee: there are approximately thirty to sixty mg. of caffeine in six - eight ounces of tea, compared to over one-hundred mg. in eight ounces of coffee.

There are aslo green teas on the market that don't contain any caffeine, just go the reputable health shops it's there.
